Online counseling or teletherapy is most successful when used in conjunction with routine in-person treatment - as a supplement to more traditional care. However, for some, it might be the only method by which treatment can be received. We provide online services that are effectively similar to in-person sessions. There are many reasons clients undergo teletherapy services. They may include:

    • You are confined to the home due to illness, injury or personal obligations.
    • You have privacy requirements that could not be met by in-person sessions.
    • You are busy or live far away and are unable to meet in person.
    • Vacations or business trips prevent you from keeping regular appointments.
    • You have inflexible work hours.
    • You experience inclement weather.
    • You cannot travel to the office due to commuting issues.
    • You need flexibility for a place and time that best fits your schedule

Reasons for teletherapy are as varied as the needs of clients and their individual personalities - but whatever the reason, teletherapy can provide the same kind of results you will find if you come to the office. The latest research has confirmed that outcomes of treatment from teletherapy are at least equal to the results of traditional in-office visits.

Some common questions and answers regarding teletherapy are:

What is teletherapy?

Teletherapy is providing therapy through a live video connection over the internet. You receive the same treatment as you would in person. It’s just done through a computer and can be done without even leaving your own home! If you have ever used Skype on your computer or FaceTime on your iPhone, you’ve used the same type of technology that teletherapy uses. Instead of Skype or FaceTime, Marianne Tomlinson Therapy, LLC uses a HIPPA compliant video conferencing system called “”

Why would I choose teletherapy?

The most common reasons people chose teletherapy are for convenience and to address non-crisis issues. Teletherapy is not intended for those who are in crisis, who are in need of intense psychological treatment, or who have a severe mental health disorder. If face-to-face therapy is more appropriate, this will be discussed with you.

How is teletherapy conducted?

Teletherapy is conducted using confidential and HIPPA compliant software. You will need a computer with video and audio capability so that you and your therapist can see and hear each other. Teletherapy sessions typically last 40-60 minutes. Any handouts or materials will be provided to you.

Is this therapy confidential?

Yes, our teletherapy services are fully HIPPA compliant and confidential. Your video sessions will NOT be recorded or archived and your therapist will be meeting with you in a secure location.

Do I have the right technology?

In order to best use WeCounsel, download Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome on your computer. If you don’t already have one of these downloaded, we strongly encourage you to do so. You must also have a microphone and webcam on your computer. You can also download the WeCounsel APP to use on your mobile devices.

How do I get started?

The best place is to start by speaking to us. We can discuss how teletherapy might benefit you, answer any questions about the process and schedule a confidential appointment. If you have any questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please call or contact us today.
